"LOSE To Win CLUB" aka -Biggest Loser Challenge - Rebekah Prattley
I joined the gym late last year and got off to a great start. I soon got very busy with my new job and found it very hard to make time for the gym. When 2010 came along, I knew I had to do something about my commitment to exercise and losing weight.
As I’m getting married in January 2011, I needed some motivation to get going. A few days after deciding I was going to get back into it, I saw the ad for the Biggest Loser Challenge in the newspaper. Perfect! It was exactly the kind of thing I needed.
With weekly weigh-ins I felt that I was accountable to something and this really helped me to motivate myself. My trainer Carmen set up a fantastic programme for me and encouraged me to keep a food diary. I found this had an incredible influence over my eating choices, all positive of course!
I felt empowered when I turned down those treats that everyone else was having. During the 4 weeks of the challenge I lost 3kg. It felt great to collect the $10 each time I’d lost a kilo. Very motivating! The Biggest Loser was such a great kick-start for me and being able to see results has kept me motivated to keep going so that I can reach my goal weight.
I also recommend the 12-week challenge to those who are struggling to find motivation. I find that having to get a signature each time you go to the gym helps me to stay on track. Fortnightly meetings with Carmen help me stay focused and on track. She makes changes to my programme if things are getting too hard or too easy. Everyone at Everybodies Gym is so friendly and helpful. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the trainers who make the gym such an enjoyable place to be!

Hi Carmen here. I am really excited to introduce to you one of our many successful clients. A very special lady who had many good reasons to remain the same, by being noncommittal, unmotivated, unhappy and ultimately unsuccessful. But this awesome woman took up the challenge and chose to make some really good and positive long term lifestyle changes, and she knows this is the start of a new lifestyle which she will continue long into the future
This included a well balanced program that I put together for Annemiek consisting of appropriate strength, and cardio training workouts, and nutrition advice that I believe have helped Annemiek get to were she is today.
Here she is to tell you the rest of her story.

I guess the question which was on my lips 7 months ago was “If I take out a gym membership and workout regularly will I get fitter and healthier?”
The answer to this question from experience is “YES”.
I have inherited back problems and hypertension from my fathers side, migraines from mothers side. To make things worse I really struggle with losing weight. I have tried many diets and failed miserably, because I lose weight and put it back on real easy. Now I eat everything in moderation.
With the help of my trainer we set up a program that catered for all my ailments. I was really unfit because of the pain I was constantly in with my back. I knew that by my determination and my trainers encouragement we were going to make a difference. It could not make things any worse.
Its been 7 months now and I visit the gym average 4 times a week and I have to be honest here and tell you its been hard going& but I feel so much better now! Fitter and healthier and I have lost 7 kilos which for me is a real bonus. I have not had a migraine since joining the gym. I am going to continue working out and it is now part of my routine. I still have a long way to go but I have time. It took years to get like this and I cant expect it to all fall into place overnight. So here I go again..theres no stopping me now!
Hi there, Kaza here to tell you how exciting it has been to be sharing Melissa's fantatic journey to get dream body. I have been taking her through all sorts of different cardiovascular, strength, and toning techniques to keep her motivated and interested in exercise. Melissa has had the most awesome results so far...
And as she knows this is the start of a new lifestyle which she will continue in the future
Karen - Trainer
Being a busy mother of three small children, wife and juggling a variety of work projects, like many other women – I haven’t had a great deal of time for myself and my weight has been gradually increasing with the middle age spread taking a firm hold. With the thought of turning 40 next year coupled with my GP advising me I needed to lose some weight I was under no illusion that I had to do something sooner rather than later and it was going require me to schedule time for myself if I wanted to lose the extra weight I had gained after having the children.
So I took the plunge and made an appointment at Everybodies Health & Fitness and sat down with my trainer Karen to work out a plan of attack which would work round my busy schedule and enable me to achieve the results I wanted.
Karen suggested that we needed to kick start my new regime with a 12 week challenge, this was going to increase my fitness, help me to lose weight and tone, under the guidance of my trainer. Also there is the added bonus of having an attendance record kept for you so that Karen knew if I was coming to the gym and putting in the work – big brother was certainly watching.
Some days I will admit it was hard to juggle an hour for the gym – but it helped me by forward planning my training and working my day around my hour at the gym – whether it be going at 6am in the morning before everyone was up – or before school pickup - I ensured the gym was a priority in my day.
Once you start to see and feel the results – it becomes addictive, I could not believe how much better I felt once I was in the swing of the training routine. I have so much more energy and motivation in my day and feel so much better having introduced daily exercise into my lifestyle. When I first started and Karen introduced me to the Spin Bike and instructed me to bike flat out for 30 seconds and slow for 1 minute – I was lucky to get through 5 minutes on the bike, but now I am wrapped that I can now do 15 minutes on the bike with 1 minute intervals.
I have now completed the 12 week challenge, but for me that was really the initiation period into the gym and training, I am fitter, leaner and have increased my endurance so I can now train one on one with Karen which is a blast.
I cannot speak highly enough about my zany, energetic trainer Karen who genuinely wants me to achieve my goals, and is committed to getting me there. I look forward to going to the gym and working with her as there is always something new she has planned for us – training certainly isn’t boring and tedious with Karen - training and fitness is her life and her passion and I am privileged to be able to work alongside her to achieve my goals.
To anybody who is interested
After one too many fat boy comments from my family and so called friends (people can be so cruel!) I decided to take up Everybodies Health and Fitness 12 week challenge.
In the beginning I wasn’t sure if I could stick to it. What with running the farm and working nights at Mataura as well as trying to keep up with my busy lady and our two active teenage girls.
However after explaining all this to Karen my P.T. (personal trainer). She came up with a training program designed for me that I could do when it suited me and with Everybodies Health & Fitness flexible hours the goals Karen set were achievable.
If I did have a question and Karen wasn’t around it was no problem to talk to the other trainers on duty.
After 12 weeks I’d dropped nearly 9lkgs that’s 12cm off my stomach (now I see why people asked when my twins were due!)
Not having to cart the extra weight around meant on our annual summer holiday to Wanaka instead of just watching everybody having fun I was out there with them swimming, biking, and kayaking hell I even walked up Mt Roy.
Was the 12 week challenge worth it?
To bloody right!
Cheers Merv (Mervin Robertson)
