Anybody that has undertaken the quest to losing weight will tell you that without a good solid plan you are pretty much wasting your time. You need to have a strategy to achieve what you set out to do. It's like jumping in in your car and just driving, and not taking the time to think or plan where you're going, you could end up anywhere ! So you need to have a goal for your trip, and the directions that are going to need to get you there. That is why setting SMART Goals are a great idea - from The Get REAL Heathy Living Guide #21
#21)
Specific - Measurable - Attainable - Relevant - Time-bound
Specific - A specific goal has a much greater chance of being accomplished than a general goal. For a specific goal you must answer the six "W" questions:
- Who: Who is involved?
- What: What do I want to accomplish?
- Where: Identify a location.
- When: Establish a time frame.
- Which: Identify requirements and constraints. *
- Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing
- Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress toward the attainment of each goal you set. When you measure your progress, you stay on track; reach your target dates, which you set out to achieve
- When you identify goals that are important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true. You develop the attitudes, abilities, skills, to reach them.
- To be relevant, a goal must present an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work.
- A goal should be achievable within a time frame. With no time frame, there's no sense of urgency, or timeline for you to stick to.
